Most handsets and devices sold in Australia in recent years fully support the Optus mobile network. When purchasing a new phone, you can ask the retailer about its compatibility or look at the specifications of the device before you buy. These are the minimum specifications you will need to access our network:
- 4G Network 700 MHz (LTE Band 28) at a minimum
- 4G VoLTE compatibility including emergency calling capability
How can I access 4G VoLTE and 5G signals?
To start enjoying superfast mobile internet and improved indoor coverage with amaysim on the Optus 4G Plus network, you’ll need to be in an area with area with 4G coverage and have a 4G VoLTE or 5G enabled mobile device.
Can I use my 3G device on your network?
No, the Optus network no longer supports 3G devices or 4G devices that do not support VoLTE and emergency calling capabilities from October 2024.
How can I choose to use 5G?
5G is available on selected SIM plans and in selected coverage areas. Your device should automatically select 5G, but if it doesn’t here’s the how to do it manually:
- iPhone:
- Go to ‘Settings’ > ‘Voice & Data’.
- Select the 5G mode you wish to use – ‘5G Auto’, ‘5G On’ or ‘LTE’.
- Android:
- Go to ‘Settings’ > ‘Connections’ > ‘Mobile network’.
- Select ‘Network mode’.
- Select ‘5G connectivity’.
Your device may be optimised to use the best network for battery life, and using 5G may affect your device’s battery life.
